Course description

This training will explore the requirements of the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which comes into force on 25 May 2018, and the practical steps schools will need to take in meeting the new law. The course will cover, amongst other issues: v An overview of the GDPR v Types of data v Consent v Privacy Notices v Individual rights (includes Subject Access Requests and Education Records Requests) v Information assets and retention of data v Data Protection Impact Assessments v Information sharing v Data security and breach notification v Policies and procedures We will also be looking at the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and explain how best to respond to such requests in the context of schools. Some of the topics we’ll be covering include: v An overview of the FOIA v Identifying an FOI request v Common exemptions v When to refuse requests v Drafting the response v Complaints and internal review process The full-day training is designed to be interactive with lots activities, group discussions and real-life scenarios. All delegates will be given course materials and templates to take away and adapt to their respective schools.
