Thinking Therapeutically in Classrooms - Challenging Behaviour

This course will provide participants with the opportunity to consider the therapeutic issues around “challenging behaviour” in relation to the circumstances and needs of children with learning disabilities who have experienced trauma. Participants will be introduced to the attachment theory and the significance of thinking about this in relation to students with learning disabilities. Participants will explore the signs and symptoms of trauma and how to work creatively with challenging behaviour in students.
- Participants will gain an understanding around the therapeutic “non-negotiables”.
- Participants will obtain a working knowledge about the Attachment Theory in relation to students with learning disabilities.
- Participants will be able to understand why children with learning disabilities are more vulnerable to abuse.
- Understand how the effects of trauma and abuse in children can get communicated through “challenging behaviour”
