Supporting Complex Needs: Sensory Integration

This is a 2-day OCN level 3 accredited course on sensory integration in the school environment. This course covers the basic theory of sensory integration and how a student with sensory integration difficulties may present in a school environment. Participants will learn and demonstrate skills used for working with students with sensory integration difficulties during the sessions and in the classroom setting. They will devise strategies for assessment, activity planning, adapting environments and creating sensory diets along with the occupational therapist and demonstrate these in action with pupils. Learning will be in the style of short lectures, group work and practical application.
- Understand the role of the senses and their importance for learning, participation and function.
- Understand the impact of the environment on a student with sensory integration difficulties.
- Understand the role of the occupational therapist as part of a team supporting students with sensory integration difficulties.
