Supporting Complex Needs: Sensory Impairement

This OCN level 3 accredited course comprises two training days, focusing on introducing visual impairment (VI) and hearing impairment (HI) and access in an educational setting. The course is based on knowledge and practical experience related to visual/hearing impairment. As an overview of some of the eye conditions participants will be using simulation glasses, as well as having practical experience of sighted guide. Participants will also have practical opportunities to explore hearing aids and frequency modulators (radio aids). There will be opportunities to reflect on how these conditions and the environment can impact on learning, and how resources, lessons and the environment can be adapted to support students with a visual/hearing impairment.

- Participants will be able to devise strategies for assessment, mobility, and resource making, adapting environments and creating sensory activities for individual students and use them in a practical setting.
